Dor'n

Dor'n provides a service which includes A to B route planning and the location of cash point machines, hospitals, museums, pubs, etc. Information is sent in seconds direct to your mobile phone without the need to upgrade or purchase a new phone.

Following last year's record sales in mobile phones, the market is experiencing fewer upgrades. Although overall usage has increased there has been a significant swing from voice calls to text messaging (SMS).

Research carried out identified the following:

Current systems are not utilised effectively
Alternatives are expensive for the end user
Accurate up to date information is not consistently maintained
Poor response times experienced
Initial costs expensive
Limited choice for customers

2002 brings a new commercial reality to network operators and end users. Dor'n will reduce costs, and bring enhanced and welcomed functionality. Our prime objective was to provide a low cost option that is both easy to use and efficient.

Dor'n provides the following basic features:

Allows a mobile phone user to find directions between any two points in the UK by sending in a text message (SMS) enquiry.
Response can either be as an SMS reply to the originating phone or to any email address depending on the options selected by the user.
Optionally the distance between the two locations can also be returned.
Allows the user to search for specific location types local to any place in the UK. For example can be used to find all ATMs near to a given location.

Cybertron designed and developed the Dor'n prototype for DL Associates using mobile phone SMS messaging interface tools and a geographical database enquiry system. We are now scaling the system up and adding further enhancements.
